Buying property now requires a bit more financial effort – for example, in Benidorm and Torrevieja the effort rate already exceeds 60%. This means buyers should be prepared for higher financial commitments.</p>								</div>

									<h3 data-start="560" data-end="608">A brief glimpse into Cartagena’s rich past</h3><p data-start="610" data-end="905">Founded in <strong data-start="621" data-end="631">227 BC</strong> by Carthaginian general Asdrúbal the Fair, Cartagena began as an important naval and military base. In <strong data-start="735" data-end="745">209 BC</strong>, Roman general Scipio Africanus conquered the city, renaming it <em data-start="810" data-end="825">Carthago Nova</em>. Under Roman rule, it became one of the Mediterranean’s most important ports.</p><p data-start="907" data-end="1144">In the centuries that followed, Cartagena was ruled by various powers – <strong data-start="979" data-end="992">Visigoths</strong>, <strong data-start="994" data-end="1008">Byzantines</strong>, and <strong data-start="1014" data-end="1025">Muslims</strong>. In <strong data-start="1030" data-end="1038">1245</strong>, Christian forces reclaimed the city, and by the 18th century it had become a key naval base for Spain.</p><p data-start="1146" data-end="1449">Today, Cartagena is known for its <strong data-start="1180" data-end="1197">Roman theater</strong>, <strong data-start="1199" data-end="1217">beautiful port</strong>, <strong data-start="1219" data-end="1241">historic festivals</strong>, and vibrant mix of cultures. You’ll also be charmed by the <strong data-start="1302" data-end="1361">lace-like wrought iron balconies of old town apartments</strong> and <strong data-start="1366" data-end="1389">period architecture</strong> that give every walk through the city a special atmosphere.</p>								</div>
